Why Direct Primary Care?

The practice of medicine is a calling that has become weighed down by outside forces that have lost the focus of what medicine should be.  Sometimes the core of medicine is overshadowed by the cost and decisions made by insurance companies.

I would like to promote a better way to practice medicine.  A practice that promotes health and safety, dignity and quality of life.  A practice that forms a partnership between a physician and patient.  A partnership that is not based on cost or insurance but on goals towards a better future.

Direct primary care is all about restoring the patient-physician relationship by removing insurance hurdles, offering unlimited access for a flat monthly fee, focusing on proactive/preventative care while lowering the overall costs and promoting better health outcomes and patient-physician satisfaction.

The membership model provides transparent, personalized care that moves away from traditional fee-for-service structure that is heavily regulated by insurance companies.  Medicine can be practiced in a manner that is tailored to improving access, lowering costs, providing broad services and developing a stronger patient-physician bond.

Why should I pay a membership fee when I already have insurance?

Our membership offers far more than basic coverage for tests or medications—it’s a fundamentally different approach to healthcare. We focus on delivering an exceptional level of care, access, and attentiveness that is rarely possible in traditional, insurance-driven models.

Here’s an important insight: in most cases, we’re able to provide testing and medications at a lower cost than going through insurance. That said, if using your insurance is more affordable or more convenient, we’re happy to do so. Our goal is always to choose the option that best serves you.

Should I cancel my health insurance?

Absolutely not. Most of our patients maintain health insurance, and we strongly recommend it for coverage in the event of a major or unexpected medical situation.

For patients with high-deductible plans, our model can often lead to significant savings. With our affordable labs, medications, and imaging services, it typically takes substantial expenses to even approach a high deductible. Even patients with excellent insurance frequently choose not to use it within our practice because of the convenience, transparency, and affordability we provide.

If we determine that a particular lab or imaging study is less expensive through your insurance—such as services that are often covered at 100%—we will always encourage you to use it.

I’m not sure that I can afford the monthly membership?

There’s truth to the phrase, “you get what you pay for.” Research published in academic journals has shown that personalized care models, such as direct primary care, are associated with fewer emergency room visits and hospitalizations.

Our practice is not designed for rushed appointments, minimal interaction, or one-size-fits-all care. We prioritize time, attention, and thoughtful decision-making. If you’re looking for quick fixes, minimal engagement, or transactional healthcare, our model may not be the right fit.

We believe healthcare should be intentional, thorough, and relationship-driven—much like the difference between fast food and a carefully prepared meal. While fast food may be inexpensive, it often lacks quality and attention to detail. We are proud to offer the opposite.

That said, we believe our pricing is very reasonable given the value we provide. For perspective, average monthly expenses per person often include:

  • Dining out: $166

  • Entertainment: $303

  • Cable and streaming services: $131

  • Cell phone service: $61

When viewed in this context, investing in your health offers exceptional long-term value.

What if I decide to cancel my membership?

While most members find it difficult to imagine going back to traditional care, we understand that life circumstances can change. We offer a simple, no-hassle cancellation process. All we require is a 30-day written notice.

Do you practice holistic, integrative or functional medicine?

Yes and No.  Our physicians are dedicated to practicing evidence-based medicine (EBM) with an emphasis on Osteopathic Principles. This approach combines the best available scientific research with clinical expertise and each patient’s values and preferences to guide medical decision-making.

By consistently integrating the latest, high-quality research into care, evidence-based medicine helps ensure treatments are effective, appropriate, cost-conscious, and safe. Our focus is on delivering care that is grounded in science, proven outcomes and whole body approach.

Do you draw blood in the office?

Yes, we do.

We aim to make healthcare as simple and convenient as possible. In most cases, you won’t need to visit an outside lab for routine bloodwork unless you prefer to see a dedicated phlebotomist (which may involve an additional lab fee). Our staff has extensive phlebotomy experience and always prioritizes your comfort.

Can I use my HSA/FSA to pay for my membership?

Yes.

Under new legislation effective January 1, 2026, Direct Primary Care (DPC) memberships are not considered disqualifying coverage when paired with a qualifying High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), provided the monthly fee does not exceed:

  • $150 per month for individuals, or

  • $300 per month for families

What this means for you:
If you are enrolled in a qualifying HDHP, you can use your HSA funds to pay your DPC membership fee on a tax-free basis, as it qualifies as an eligible medical expense.
